ABOUT PRINCE OF SUn
Born in Belgium of Italian-Belgian heritage, Dominique CJ Masullo, aka Prince Of Sun, shapes a personal imagination nourished by buried memories, stories, vernacular forms, and a deeply Mediterranean sensibility. Prince Of Sun explores territory on the border between sculpture and utilitarian object, where the material seems charged with memory and meaning.
His ceramics, expressive and deliberately imperfect, evoke buried fragments, ancient, almost archaeological forms. Vegetal, mineral, mythological: each work seems to emerge from a parallel world, both archaic and fantasized, and imposes itself in space as a vibrant, familiar presence, without ever being entirely identifiable.
"I didn’t know anything about ceramics, ceramic works are always an integral part of the material itself and above all, of its unpredictability. For me, creating a ceramic work is like creating a new life by making the material vibrate during creation. During these years I learned to make the material vibrate and come alive. I’ve found in ceramic an effective tool with which to experiment with the very concept of sculpture, even managing to transform everyday objects into variable sculpture".
